What My RPG Source is
My RPG Source is an independent character-building and rules-learning project for tabletop roleplaying games. Its first major tool supports fifth-edition Dungeons and Dragons fantasy characters using both the 2014 and 2024 rules.
The builder is designed to help players create, save, print, and understand their characters without turning the process into a maze of mystery boxes. Knowledge Cards explain terms in context, while the searchable Rules Codex gives players a deeper place to explore.
Why it exists
Character creation should feel like the opening scene of an adventure, not a tax form wearing rusty chain mail. My RPG Source was created to make the process clearer, friendlier, and more useful at the table. Ultimately, the end goal of this entire project is to help break down the barriers that might exist that stop people from ever starting to play in these magical worlds.
The project is built and operated by Jason Paul in Ontario, Canada. It began as a hands-on creative project by a lifelong roleplaying fan who wanted to learn web development while building something other players could genuinely use.
How character data works
My RPG Source does not currently require an account. Character saves are stored locally in the player's browser. Players may also export a JSON backup, import a previous backup, print a sheet, or create a PDF.
Because browser storage can be cleared or lost, exported backups are recommended for characters you want to keep.
Where the project is going
The immediate focus is a dependable fifth-edition builder with strong support for character advancement, multiclassing, rules guidance, and printing. Additional tabletop systems and original tools may be added later as the project grows.
